Mansfield Alumni
The charter of the Alumni Association can be traced back to 1871 when Mansfield graduates formed the organization for the purpose of "encouraging and fostering the spirit of friendship among graduates." While continuing to build on the core values and traditions of the past, the current focus of the Alumni Association is to communicate, involve, and motivate alumni to keep their connection with Mansfield University and fellow alumni alive and well. The Alumni Association is pleased to offer accommodations at the Alumni House so that alumni have a home-away from home when visiting campus and serving their alma mater.
Alumni House Dedication
The dedication of the Alumni House took place on June 7, 2013 as part of the Alumni Weekend festivities. Amy Dupree Brooks '80, past president of the Alumni Association Board of Directors, acknowledged the generosity of several alumni who had made substantial donations toward the soft and hard furnishings in the house to make it warm and welcoming for all alumni who visit. "This house is an example of compromise, faith and vision. It is a testament to all who envisioned the possibilities and took the necessary steps to make it a reality. It truly signifies the love and respect that the university has for its dedicated alumni."
History of the Alumni House
The house is located one block north of Route 6, at 105 Sherwood Street, adjacent to Brooks Maintenance Building. Believed to have been purchased and owned by the Stilwell family from 1937 until the 1960s, five of the family's six children (as well as some of their spouses) are proud alumni of Mansfield: Merle '56 (Eleanor Seely Stilwell '56), Donald '59 (Joann Bowen Stilwell '59), Arthur '55, Ninita Stilwell Jones '60 and Clarice Stilwell Evans '47 (deceased) (Leslie Evans '49). After her children were grown, Mrs. Gladys Stilwell continued to house countless Mansfield students by renting out the extra upstairs bedroom.
